Gippsland Lakes and Paynesville have a unique character, defined by the presence of the Mitchell River Silt Jetties just off the mainland. These naturally formed silt banks run for over eight kilometres, making them the second largest silt jetties in the entire world, and the longest in the southern hemisphere.
The Ninety Mile Beach is a sandy stretch of beach on the south-eastern coastline of the East Gippsland region of Victoria in Australia. The beach faces Bass Strait and backs the Gippsland Lakes. The beach is just over 151 kilometres (94 miles) in length, running north-eastward from a spit near Port Albert to the man-made channel at Lakes Entrance.
Lake Tyers State Park extends from Lake Tyers Beach to Mount Nowa Nowa. Tall eucalypt forests surround the northern shores of Lake Tyers, and a thin sand spit divides the lake from the ocean.
Depart the airfield heading west towards The Silt Jetties then onto Paynesville and Raymond Island. Turn east just before Loch Sport and fly along the Ninety Mile beach. Fly past The Entrance onto Lake Tyers before turning north and heading back to the airfield.
